A bike tour through the fantastic Franciacorta territory to discover and admire the landscape and savour the expressions and thousands of bubbles of the DOCG through the 'Taste & Bike Experience'.
Franciacorta is located in the heart of Lombardy, about 80 km from Milan, which can be reached in less than an hour thanks to the motorway, and is world-famous for its bubbles produced with the classic method.
Its territory stretches for about 200 kilometres, overlooking the shores of Lake Iseo and 19 municipalities belonging to the province of Brescia. Hilly landscapes with countless wineries, monasteries, churches, villages and breathtaking nature. An ideal area for a 'Taste & Bike Experience'.
Before getting in the saddle, the qualifying question when choosing a bicycle, e-bike or MTB: How many types of Franciacorta DOCG are available?
Depending on ageing and blending, nine types are distinguished: Franciacorta 18, Rosé 24, Satèn 24 - and each of these varieties is also available in 'vintage 30' and 'reserve 60'.
A bike tour through vineyards with tastings to exercise the palate and the legs
We will set off from Iseo by bicycle, and our expert guides will accompany us along the route so that we can take it easy and fully concentrate on the beautiful landscapes. We will discover the villages, the dirt roads through the vineyards leading to our wine cellars, where we will enjoy a break with various tastings.
Depending on your choice, you can opt for a route of different lengths: ‘18 BRUT’, ‘24 SATÈN’ or ‘30 MILLESIMATO’ km to follow the hilly roads between sloping terraces, vineyards and monasteries and then taste 6 samples from 3 different wineries.
On two wheels and at a slow pace, we enjoy nature, culture and, of course, the 1000 expressions of Franciacorta DOCG bubbles.
There is a precise zoning for soil description, but one can generalise by saying that the soil of Franciacorta is largely of moraine origin and is very rich in sand and silt. The composition derives from deposits transported by the ancient 'Oglio' glacier over the last 700,000 years, with stones of various types, including large boulders, pebbles and gravel.
Do you know which grape varieties are authorised for the production of Franciacorta? There are four! Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc and recently a new variety, Erbamat, an indigenous grape variety that gives more acidity and is only authorised in small quantities up to a maximum of 10%.
At the last stop - our final destination - a team wine-quiz with various questions and a bit of fun awaits us before we enjoy our picnic in the vineyard or, if we wish, our light lunch in a local trattoria. Of course, the winner (team) will receive a prize - guess what...!
